Collection analysis lab
MARCH 2023 In my first year, I had a period called “the labs.” In this period we learned different hard skills of the fashion industry. I had one week for each lab, which meant little time and high pressure. Luckily I perform well under these circumstances.
Surprisingly, one of my favorites was a more business, and not a branding-related lab, collection analysis. For this assignment, I researched the American brand Carhartt. I analyzed their Menswear New Arrivals 23 in-store as well as online. I visualized my analysis into multiple charts in the style of the brand. I also calculated the cost-, wholesale- and retail prices, as well as the margins and markup of three different products.
Conducting a collection analysis taught me how to critically evaluate the cohesiveness, marketability, and design elements of a fashion line.
